Announcing the release of the Adam Beckett book!

Updated: Feb 10, 2020

It's official! Infinite Animation: The Life and Work of Adam Beckett is available and out in the world! The book, a monograph, is a new title in CRC Press' "Focus Animation Series".

As his biographer, I am delighted to finally be able to share my research into his life and work. He was a larger-than-life character whose life reflects the times he lived in. He had a front row seat growing up in LA, witnessing Woodstock, the turmoil of the 1968 Democratic national Convention, and the changes that culture in the USA underwent through the 1960s and 1970s. His work inspired his peers and fellow artists in the independent animation community that entered a 'golden age' at that time. The book examines the animations in depth, considering the process as well as the conceptual exploration and influences. It also includes significant biographical information, as pertains to the films and his evolution as an artist.

His work is abstract and was pioneering, even though he was a student (undergraduate and then graduate) when he created it at CalArts in the first half of the 1970s.. His restored films are now available to view in HD on Vimeo and on Kanopy (both courtesy of The iotaCenter), and the actual films can be rented through Canyon Cinema.

<Note that the cover art is NOT Adam's work; it's the series brand. >

More information on Adam and is work is in the Adam K. Beckett Project area of my website--and much more is in the book!
